As I sit here typing at 4:35am, I'm pondering where I want to 'go' with this post. Over the past several days, we've managed to get our hopes up (yet again). We were sent a referral for a baby girl that had been born last Friday. After receiving the news yesterday that the birth mother has picked another family, we're all a little numb by it all. Perhaps a little humbled, as well.
Everyone has heard the saying "it will happen when it's supposed to happen" or "what is meant to be will be". And how about "fate"...people love to throw out the fate card in situations like this. As a family, we firmly believe in God's will. If it's meant to be according to His will, than it will indeed happen. End of story.
Every adoption situation is different and we continue to learn more and more about ourselves through the process. This last situation was no different. The referral came through for a healthy, premature little girl. As the days progressed since the referral, we were met with some medical information that may or may not defer a family from their original decision for the situation. We often check in with our pediatrician to see what types of diagnosis and prognosis information that we can obtain before making any rash decisions.
It's not always easy for people to sit back and watch us move forward with situations (especially when the medical information indicates that the baby might have some long term medical conditions). It wasn't until this last referral, that we were able to finally share our faith whole heartedly with some non-believers. With this new referral, we were initially met with plenty of "Oh, that's amazing...I hope it happens for you guys". After receiving some of the medical news (that did not reter us from the situation), we were then met with "What about this? What about that? Do you know that this can happen? Are you sure you really want to do this?".
I chuckle as I type this post because God is good. All of the time. He will not give us anything that we cannot handle. He will always provide according to His will. It's pretty amazing to be a part of His big plan. If people believe that "what is meant to be will be", shouldn't that include WHATEVER God has planned? Regardless of whether it 'seems' right to other people or not, we know that God will eventually lead us to the child that He has picked out for us.
When was the last time you gave it all to God? When was the last time you trusted Him with whatever situation you're going through? Perhaps today should be that day.
A simple tale about the H family...homegrown New Englanders who continue to evolve over time.

The 21 Rules Of This House (By: Gregg Harris)
1.) We obey God. 2.) We love, honor, and pray for one another. 3.) We tell the truth. 4.) We consider one another's interests ahead of our own. 5.) We speak quietly and respectfully with one another. 6.) We do not hurt one another with unkind words or deeds. 7.) When someone needs correction, we correct him in love. 8.) When someone is sorry, we forgive him. 9.) When someone is sad, we comfort him. 10.) When someone is happy, we rejoice with him. 11.) When we have something nice to share, we share it. 12.) When we have work to do, we do it without complaining. 13.) We take care of everything that God has given us. 14.) We do not create unnecessary work for others. 15.) When we open something, we close it. 16.) When we take something out, we put it away. 17.) When we turn something on, we turn it off. 18.) When we make a mess, we clean it up. 19.) When we do not know what to do, we ask. 20.) When we go out, we act just as if we were in this house. 21.) When we disobey or forget any of the 21 Rules Of This House, we accept the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

Choose ADOPTION

As we wait for our child, we pray that more people would choose life. With 1 to 2 million families in the US waiting to adopt a child, we can't help but pray for the women who have the chance to choose life for their baby...and for another family who is waiting.

A Not-So-Updated Update
It's been a while since my last post. Things have been busy on every front. Our home life is going well. We've been entertaining various families at our house for various dinner get togethers. We love getting together with friends to enjoy company and fellowship. Our jobs are going well and we should be receiving notification from the state regarding my position at some point in the next few weeks. With all of the budget cuts being proposed, the funding source for my position at the school is being considered for a possible budget cut. The adoption process continues to be eventful as we wait for God's plan to unfold for our family. Since my last post, we have been considered two more times and each situation has allowed us to learn more about ourselves and how much we need to rely on God for everything. Although we have yet to be officially matched with a expectant mother, we have been fortunate enough to be placed in various situations where we can pray specifically for mothers and their babies. In our head, we understand that it's all about God's plan. In our hearts, however, we continue to feel disappointed when we are not chosen by a mother. It can be difficult to process the emotions that come along with adoption but thanks to our faith, we feel encased in God's love. We know that God has a plan for our family and we are thrilled that y'all are standing beside us through this entire journey! Stay tuned for more updates as we get them...hugs until then! *Squeeze*
