Charlie's Missing Angel?!?

 

While typing on the computer, I heard a slight prance of feet.  Much to my surprise, this is what I saw when the feet made it's final descent upon me.  WHOA....Is Charlie missing one of his angels?!?  

 

Little Miss Weenie Goes To The Beach

 

As much as I want to tell you all about our day at the beach with the Cape's, I really need to step back and let y'all make sense of our day by looking at the pictures.  I trust that you will see that we had a great time together.  I trust that you will see how beautiful the weather was.  And I trust that you will enjoy watching the unexpected furry friend's day with the kids (none of them knew that Little Miss Weenie would be coming with us).  Please keep in mind that Swiper LOVES Weenie Girl and she treats her like one of the 'girls' and takes her everywhere she goes.  Enjoy the pics...and remember- look for the furry friend in as many photos as you can.  Trust me, the pictures will tell you everything that happened today.

WW2 Workshop

For the past month, PQ and I have been studying WW2 in preparation for today's WW2 workshop.  PQ has been learning about the 1940's, D-Day, the Nazi's, Hitler, Rations, Victory Gardens, and much much more.  Every year, our local homeschool group puts together at least one major workshop for the kids and this year's theme was WW2.  Today's workshop was AMAZING!  The details that went in to the planning and preparation for the workshop are truely unbelievable.  Grammy R came to the workshop for the morning and even this evening, she continued to say how amazing the day was.  She said that if her schooling was this hands on, she would finished high school.  And for us, this was another reminder that we are doing everything we can to encourage a love of learning by allowing our kids to experience school.  Aaaah...I love it.  Thanks again to the entire group for making this happen for the kids!

 

 

Before we get started on pictures from the day, I just want to give a quick shout out to Sugar for winning the BEST COSTUME award today.  Once the votes were tallied, she was announced the winner of the contest.  I thought for sure that Miss Bri was going to win (she looked amazing in her 1940's nursing outfit).  Congratulations to my little Rosie The Riveter.  (If you don't know who Rosie The Riveter is, just google it...you'll see her iconic face from the 1940's.)

Once the children came to the store, they used their RATION BOOKS to buy items.

Here the kids made gingerbread and they canned dilly beans.

 

This storefront was filled with WW2 weapons and uniforms.

 

In the FACTORY, all of the kids worked on an assembly line.

Did I mention the SINGERS?

Once inside the LIVINGROOM, the kids mingled with the Veterans.

They also played games from the 1940's era.

The students planed their own Victory Gardens with Miss Heather.

After learning about a famous painter from the 1940's, the kids got to try his technique for themselves!  Messy but so much fun!

 

 

 

 

 

Sugar was more concerned about the man in the chair than she was of this large soldier carrying a gun.  YIKES!  (I love the look she has on her face...) 

This was by far my favorite part of the day-

listening to the Veterans share stories and memories

(and then hearing the questions that the kids had for them)

This is something the kids will never forget!!

Over at the Victory Gardens, PQ learned how to make a biodegradable planting pot.

Sugar was quite loving towards Scholastic today.

I think it was his lucky day.  He LOVES Sugar!!

Seeing the kids dance and smile was SO MUCH FUN!

 

 

It truly was an amazing day.  My captions and pictures can't possibly describe the level of exposure that all of these students had today.  WW2 came to life for every single person that was in the building today.  I can guarantee that everybody that came to the event was blessed by what they saw, heard, touched, and experienced today.  It was an amazing experiential learning day for sure!
