Anything: My New Favorite Book

Since starting the book Anything last week, I have fallen in love with the story.  I just finished the final chapter this evening and I am anxious to go back and read it all again.  Never in my life have I ever done this...or desired to do this.  The words on the pages seem to speak to me.  They speak to my desires.  They speak to my soul.  And I can't wait to see what God is going to do.  I'm willing to do Anything...and I know that it's not always going to be easy.  But I'm willing...

Summer Reading: ANYTHING

As the warm weather is upon us, so is my list of books to read for the summer.  Last night I began reading ANYTHING by Jennie Allen (the same author from the STUCK study that I will be working on this summer).  ANYTHING is a book that I've been anxiously waiting to read but at the same time, I've known that it was going to stretch me in ways that I don't always like to go.  You see, the book is a call to surrender to what is comfortable and step out in faith.  If you know me, you also know that I like to be comfortable...I mean, who doesn't?!?  And this book was written to encourage believers to step up and do what God has called them to do.  Anything is a biblical nudge to do what God calls all believers to do...to share the gospel, to make disciples, to be the salt and light in their community, to make an impact, and to stop being complacent.  And sometimes that means taking risks...big risks.

Safe. Comfortable. Happy.

Words we all love. Feelings we want. Even crave. We may love God, but being that he's invisible, words like comfortable seem to feel better faster.

We are all chasing something. Our hearts were made to run hard and fast after things that move us. But as a generation we are all beginning to stir and wake up, identifying that these words don't satisfy for long, especially when compared to God. If God is real, and we are going to live with Him forever, shouldn't He be everything?

Caught in this familiar haze of worldly happiness and empty pursuits, Jennie Allen and her husband Zac prayed a courageous prayer of abandonment that took them on an adventure God had written for them.

"God, we will do anything. Anything,"

Anything is a prayer of surrender that will spark something. A prayer that will move us to stop chasing things that just make us feel happy and start living a life that matters. A life that is...

Surrendered. Reckless. Courageous.

If we truly know a God worth giving anything for, everything changes

It's Official...

Haiti, here I come!!!!

Say What?!?

Me: What type of soap did you use?

PQ: I didn't use any...

Me: What do you mean?  You just took a shower.  Why didn't you use any soap?

PQ:  Because I was enjoying the water.

Me:  PQ, the whole point of showering is to wash your body.

PQ:  But I've done this before...and you've never said anything.

Me:  What?!?  You need to wash your body from head to toe when you get in the shower.  The shower is not a free sprinkler system so get back in there and wash up!

PQ:  Sorry, Mama...

Happy 2nd Birthday, HQ!

This evening we were reminded yet again how quickly time flies.  Mama Grace called us this evening to check in and while we were on the phone with her, we were able to wish HQ a Happy 2nd Birthday.  It's still hard to believe that two years ago, we were embarking on the adoption roller coaster that would ultimately lead us to our beautiful baby girl.  God has an amazing way of working things out, doesn't he?!?  Even through the most difficult times, He was preparing our hearts and our home for Miss Sugar.  I still can't wrap my head around our whole story.  God's whole story of bringing Sugar into our life is beautiful because of the layers that are involved.  So many lives were touched and so many people have heard the good news because of HQ and Sugar's unique stories.  I am forever grateful for His grace and His mercy through it all.

HQ will always hold a dear spot in our hearts and to hear his mama tell us how well they are all doing, warms my heart.  Hearing HQ's sweet voice on the other end of the phone was a simple reminder that distance cannot change the love we have for Mama Grace and HQ.

Happy 2nd Birthday, Little Man.  We love you lots, HQ!

Cape Cod Pre-Show

We've been in Cape Cod since Friday visiting with family.  I took TONS of pictures but before I share all of them with you, I thought I would give you a quick glimpse of PQ and Thomas (PQ's cousin who's from San Diego).  Thomas could not get enough of PQ.  And as you can see, Eskimo Kisses were abounding...
